Findings since the previous assessment in 2003 show:
- Fourth-grade students scored higher in both reading and mathematics.
- Eighth-graders scored higher in mathematics, but reading scoresdecreased.
- Many of the differences in achievement between Black or Hispanicstudents and their White counterparts have narrowed.
- Most states did not see a change in reading scores for 4th or 8thgraders.
- Thirty-three states and jurisdictions showed an increase in 4th-grade mathematics scores.
